Immigration Lawyer for Garza County and Post

Garza County, Texas · Immigration Law

Post was built
on purpose. Your case
still leaves the state.

You've been in Post a long time. The kids came up through Post ISD, you know this town was laid out on purpose in 1907 rather than growing by accident, and the green card has been in a drawer for years anyway.

One will ask you to call a 202 area code. You're not trying to learn immigration law. You're trying to work out who's real.

Start with something checkable.

The plain-English answer for Garza County

Naturalization is how a permanent resident becomes a U.S. citizen. Anywhere in Garza County, from Post out across the Caprock, your case runs through the same federal office, and it isn't in Texas.

  • Under INA § 316(a), the five-year route needs five years of continuous residence, 913 days of physical presence, and three months in this district before filing.
  • Married to a citizen? INA § 319(a) cuts that to three years and 548 days, if the marriage holds the whole time.
Pro tip for Garza CountyTwo federal appointments, and only one of them is close. Biometrics are at the Lubbock Application Support Center, 3502 Slide Road. The examination is in Edmond, Oklahoma. Post is about 41 miles from our office by road, and Edmond is 361 miles. Dallas is the district, not a place you'll go.

We know the climb up 84.

US 84 runs northwest out of Post and up the caprock into Lubbock, with US 380 and SH 207 crossing here as well. Fingerprints at Slide Road, then the examination hours north, in Edmond, Oklahoma. People assume a case like this gets heard at the county courthouse in Post, because that's where county business happens. It isn't. Nothing in your federal file passes through that building, and two firms ranking above us publish the wrong federal office anyway. One says Dallas. One says San Antonio.

When USCIS resumes a personal investigation the people they may talk to are your landlord, your employer and the parents you stand next to at a Post ISD pickup line, and out here that's a different set of witnesses than a Dallas firm is picturing.

A town somebody planned on purpose

Post was founded in 1907 by C. W. Post as a planned town, and the county still runs on oilfield services, farming and ranching. Post ISD enrolls 649 students. US 84, US 380 and SH 207 meet here, and the drive to this office is forty-one miles.

Oilfield service work is the part that shapes a case. It moves people between counties and sometimes between states, and an immigration file is built out of exactly that: where you lived, when, and for how long. A worker who has followed the work for a decade has a residence history that takes real reconstruction, and it is far easier to assemble before a filing than to defend after a request for evidence asks for it.

Post has one school district of 649 students and one of everything else, which makes this county unusually easy to document and unusually easy to underestimate. US 84 runs southeast to Lubbock, US 380 crosses east and west, and SH 207 comes down from Crosby County. Forty-one miles to the office on 84.

The oilfield service work here is the part that complicates an otherwise clean file. It follows the rig rather than the county line, and a worker who has spent ten years doing it has lived in more places than his mailing address shows. Continuous residence and physical presence are counted in days from a specific list of addresses. Reconstructing ten years of that after a filing is expensive. Doing it before costs one conversation, and it is the first thing we ask a Garza County client to bring.

How a citizenship case runs from here

  1. We read the file before you file anything. Applying reopens your whole immigration history under INA § 318, and since August 29, 2025 a voter registration you'd forgotten about is screened as a false claim to citizenship, which is answered with a Notice to Appear rather than a denial. Better we find that than an officer does.
  2. We count the days, not the years. 913 or 548, counted from your actual travel. Saying "about two and a half years" is how a case gets denied for somebody who drives down to see family every December.
  3. Biometrics come first. Slide Road in Lubbock, weekday morning, in and out. About 41 miles, and the shorter of the two drives by a long way.
  4. The examination is in Edmond. North into Oklahoma, 361 miles and a little over six and a half hours, and you're never required to bring a lawyer.
  5. We build the character record early. Two or more letters from U.S. citizens who aren't family can support waiving the neighborhood investigation altogether. Almost nobody writes about this.

English and citizenship classes near Garza County

Naturalization is the one filing here with a test attached. You have to read, write and speak English and answer civics questions, and for many long-settled residents that requirement, not the paperwork, is what has kept the application in a drawer. Which test you sit depends on the day you filed: before October 20, 2025 it's the 2008 version, 100 questions, and on or after it's the 2025 version, 128. A law office prepares the case. A classroom prepares the person.

Questions we get from this county

Where is my citizenship interview if I live in Garza County?

The USCIS Oklahoma City Field Office, 3101 Technology Drive, Edmond, Oklahoma.

Every Garza County ZIP returns that office. Dallas is the district, which is administrative and not an interview location, and confusing the two is why competitor pages get this wrong.

Can applying for citizenship put my green card at risk?

It can, and any lawyer who tells you otherwise is selling you something.

It reopens your entire history, including the original residency filing. Since August 29, 2025 a voter registration you'd forgotten about is screened as a false claim to citizenship, and that's answered with a Notice to Appear.

Do I actually need a lawyer for this?

Sometimes no, and we'll tell you that.

Plenty of people file a clean N-400 alone. What changes the answer: an arrest of any kind, long absences, a tax question, or anything you're unsure how to answer truthfully.

Can my lawyer come with me?

Yes.

That's a full day, fuel, and often a night away. Ask any firm you're considering whether they'll actually make that drive.

Garza County.
Let's talk.

By the end you'll know whether your days add up, whether anything in your file is a problem, and whether now is the right time to file.
